How you approach a new challenge may be very different than how your horse approaches a new challenge. How you communicate and how your horse communicates may also be very different. These basic differences can cause frustration, stress, confusion, anxiety and fear in our work with our horses. However, when we have different preferences than our horse does, we can be assets for each other and tremendous learning partners. But how do we bridge the gap in understanding each other?

Emergenetics is a powerful tool for understand your own strengths and preferences as well as your horse’s strengths and preferences. Emergenetics consists of a 20 minute questionnaire, a profile debrief or workshop and then further coaching if desired. When used as a tool for better understanding and communication with horses, sessions with your horse are also required. Horses obviously do not sit down and answer the 20 minute questionnaire. However, by doing some basic ground work exercises with horse and handler, the horse’s preferences can be deciphered. Further lessons are then done to help horse and handler to better understand each other’s preferences and how to tailor your communication to each other to decrease misunderstandings.
